David Bishop was University Librarian Emeritus at Northwestern University. He was University Librarian from 1992 through 2006, and prior to that, he was the University Librarian at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, Director of Libraries at the University of Georgia, and Assistant Director for Technical Services at the University of Chicago. He served on the governing boards of many organizations, including the Association of Research Libraries, the Center for Research Libraries, EDUCOM, and The Coalition for Networked Information. From 2008 to his passing he had been a principal adviser to the Electronic Library of Ukraine project.
