Symposium on War Crimes and JusticeNorthwestern Pritzker School of Law and Kyiv-Mohyla Law School

An all-day Symposium titled “Re-Imagining Transitional Justice in Ukraine”, sponsored by the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and the Kyiv-Mohyla School of Law (KMALaw) took place in Chicago on April 12. 

The Ukrainian group from KMALaw presented their positions in the first two panels.  These speakers included experts in the fields of international law, human rights, war crimes and crimes related to the Russian illegal invasion and atrocities in Ukraine. The following KMALaw jurists participated in the Symposium: Dmytro Koval,PhD, professor of international and European law, Maksym Vishchyk, PhD candidate and KMALaw faculty member, Kateryna Busol, PhD, is a professor at KMALaw and currently a British Academy research fellow in London. The guests from Ukraine were joined by Dr. Yohanan Petrovsky-Shtern, who provided a compelling historical background on the unsuccessful role of the colonizer to eradicate Ukrainian identity. Taisa Markus, JD, adjunct professor of law at the KMALaw and at the University of Illinois College of Law, delivered the keynote remarks at the end of the symposium. The group also joined Ukrainian-American lawyers at the Chicago University Club.
