Reflections at the Close of 2025:
Why Supporting Ukrainian Education Matters Today

Thoughts Aloud at the Threshold of 2026
As the new year approaches, Borys Trofimov, a graduate of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and a member of the Board of Directors of the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of America, reflects on why supporting Ukrainian education matters today. For him, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is a community united by shared values, leadership, and a deep commitment to Ukraine’s future. Long a catalyst of national consciousness and a symbol of resilience, the Academy remains a space of intellectual freedom and inspiration, bringing together people whose energy and ideas continue to shape a strong, independent Ukraine.

Artists Yarema Khrushch and Anastasiia Kovalenko, friends of the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of America and the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, remind us:

“In difficult times, we especially seek to hold on to what carries deep meaning and gives hope. Education is about people, about inner strength, and about faith in Ukraine’s future.”

Artist Olena Diadenko, also a friend of the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of America and NaUKMA, shares her deeply personal perspective: “Education is not just about knowledge — it is hope and a path toward the future. During wartime, it becomes a vital necessity. The realization that all subjects are taught in Ukrainian, and that among the students are the children of fallen Heroes and of those who continue to fight for Ukraine every day, deeply touches the heart. This is what inspires me to support and donate - to give these children a chance for a bright, dignified, and strong future.”

“Education shapes leaders who will rebuild Ukraine after the war. Supporting Kyiv-Mohyla Academy  is supporting future generations and the resilience of our nation.” — Dr. Mariana Yaremko, Chair, Illinois Chapter, Ukrainian Medical Association of North America

Diaspora friends preserve the spirit of Academy, connecting it to global academic standards and carrying forward the legacy of freedom of thought and courage.

These voices remind us that education is not only an investment in learning, but an act of faith in people, language, and the enduring future of Ukraine.

The story of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy has become deeply personal for many of us — for those who discovered it only recently and for those who graduated years ago. Even across distances, we have shared difficult moments, supported one another, and built a community that remains a source of strength wherever we are — in Kyiv, Chicago, Washington, Toronto, or anywhere else in the world. Today, we share words that unite friends of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy on both sides of the ocean.Khrystyna Tatarska, President of the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of Canada, emphasizes that the greatest value of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy lies in its strong sense of community — a culture of trust, mutual support, and responsibility that shapes leaders committed to the common good. She also highlights the unique role of the diaspora in the Academy’s future, noting that through financial support, mentorship, and global partnerships, diaspora communities can serve as a vital bridge connecting Ukraine with the world and expanding opportunities for the next generation.
