Ivanna, a 16 year old girl who attended the 2023-24 "Individual Trajectory of a Leader" program for the children of fallen Defenders of Ukraine, wrote a letter that brings us face to face with reality. 

We celebrate the new academic year at KMA with hope and pride for the next generation of Ukrainian leaders. This year more than 1900 new students entered studies at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy!

KMA Alumni raised 120,000 UAH (3000 $) for the Scholarship Fund during the KMA Alumni Reunion.

Kyiv-Mohyla Academy hosted extraordinary guests. Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom and former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Oksana Markarova, and Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Yulia Kovaliv, met with faculty and students.

Marta Farion, Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation’s President speaks at the Captive Nations Summit in Washington. The Conference was co-sponsored by the Ukrainian Institute, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukraine House, the President’s Fund, and the Ministry of Education and Science. The role of Ambassador Oksana Markarova and First Secretary Kateryna Smagliy, was key to the success and professionalism of the conference. Both diplomats are graduates of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

Ukraine’s Constitution Day was designated in the 1990-s as the official Convocation Day at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. We are happy to report that the 2024 Convocation took place pm June 28 in several locations at the campus because of concern for security and the large number of graduates and their families who came to celebrate.

International Law and the War

Two weeks before May 31, the Day of the KMA IT Department, the faculty announced a major fundraising campaign aimed at providing a mobile military repair workshop for the defenders on the Donetsk front line.

A team of students from the KMA Law School won the final round of the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition. Telders is the most prestigious competition in international public law in Europe.

Students from the «KMA Help» initiative, which focuses on charitable fundraising for defenders (students, alumni, faculty) from the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, relaunched this legendary event.

On May 28th, at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy campus, there was a meeting for students, faculty, and university staff with Serhii Plokhii, a renowned American and Ukrainian historian.

Extensive participation by Kyiv-Mohyla Academy scholars in high-profile academic and professional events in the same week in New York City.

Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and the University of California, Berkeley have started a projects of a startup hub.

The discussion focused on the inadmissibility of territorial concessions by Ukraine from the point of view of international law, the colonial nature of the Russian war against Ukraine. 

On April 22, 23, 24, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy held a series of wartimes discussions featuring leading writers, journalists, and military and policy analysts David Rieff (USA) and Ed Vulliamy(UK), and writer, publisher, and translator Askold Melnyczuk (USA).

KMA Law School Dean Voilodymyr Venher was invited to speak at an event at The Harriman Institute, Columbia University in New York, focused on the topic of “Kidnapped Childhood: Russia’s War on Ukraine’s Children”, that brought together the founder of Save Ukraine, Mykola Kuleba, filmmaker Tetiana Khodakivska, and artist Alevtina Kakhidze, who explored different aspects of Russian war crimes against the children.

A workshop on pro-bono practices worldwide was held on April 10, organized by the Faculty of Law at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and the Vance Center for International Justice of New York. 

The program of cooperation between Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and Georgetown University was formalized with the bilateral visits of Dr. Olha Polyukhovych and Dr. Tamara Martsenyuk to Georgetown University in December 2023.
